Late Winter/Early Spring Buying

It's been a while since we had an update. It's unseasonably warm and it feels like winter isn't even here yet, but spring is just around the corner (we hope!) While we're not quite ready to start the buying transition just yet, we have entered our late winter/early spring buying phase.

What does this mean?

Late winter means we're slowing down on heavier winter coats. Instead we're focusing on transitional pieces that can go from winter to spring. This means we probably buy your parka or heavy wool coat. Same goes for your winter accessories like hat and heavy scarves. We're still looking for things like sweaters, lighter wool jackets, layering pieces, basic boots, denim and leather jackets, and some lighter-weight sweater dresses.

Early spring means we're starting to buy lighter weight dresses even some sundresses. We're not quite ready for strappy sandals but we'll entertain an open-toe shoe here and there. It's not time for overtly summer items like swimwear or other beachwear like sunhats or cover-ups, but we will be starting to buy in things like cotton rompers and sleeveless tops. Basically if you can throw a cardigan and a denim jacket over it or tights under it there's a good chance we'll take it if the style and condition are right for us.

As always, we buy according to stock levels, style, season, and condition. This is meant to be a guide but isn't the end-all be-all of what we may be buying on any given day.

Buying hours reminder

A note to all our lovely customers:
We stop buying half an hour before closing time.
This means we buy from 12 - 7:30 on Monday-Saturday and 12 - 6:30 on Sunday.

By stop buying, we mean we stop. Therefore if you show up at 7:15 with four huge duffel bags we may not be able to go through it all. These hours are in effect so we can have a sufficient amount of time to do our closing tasks. Also, if there is a wait when you arrive late in our business day (this is rare, but more frequent in the busy fall months) understand that we may not get to your things. You have the option of leaving your bags at the shop overnight. If you opt to do this we will look through your items first thing the following morning. Please note that we can't hold bags for more than one day, so if you leave them over night you must come back the following day to collect any remaining items as well as your cash or credit.

To avoid being turned away (we really hate doing it, we love getting in new stuff) keep the following in mind: it generally takes us about 10-15 minutes to sort through each large bag. The more items we take the longer it takes us to sort through them. If you have a lot of items it is suggested that you bring them in at least one full hour prior to closing time. And remember we have a limit of four large bags per customer.

We don't mean to sound stern, but our buying hours are necessary to provide us as buyers with an adequate amount of time to assess the items you bring in. This is good for everyone, shoppers get a crack at the best goods and sellers get the fairest most appropriate price for the items they bring in and we can minimize error and make sure give our customers their fair share of our attention.

Fall Buying

It may be balmy out there still, but we're looking forward and we've started buying for fall.
What does this mean?

Swimwear, sandals, and super summery dresses and prints (think slinky silk sleeveless/strapless and barely there cotton blends) are out.

Layerable pieces are still in (if you can throw a denim jacket over it or a pair of tights under it, we still want it.) These items include denim cut-offs, cotton, rayon, and some linen dresses, open-toed shoes, and some tanks.

We are now starting to buy wool sweaters and cardigans as well as cotton and vintage acrylic ones. Similarly, we are open to light wool, cotton, canvas, leather and nylon jackets. Save your parkas, massive furs/shearlings, and heavy wool coats for a couple more months when we'll start buying for winter. We may buy in some items ahead of season if they are designer or exceptional vintage, but you will get a better price if you bring them during the appropriate season. A rabbit fur jacket may be priced low to move in September but it will be priced higher as part of normal stock in November. If you have any questions, the best thing to do is call before you shlep any heavy items in.

As far as footwear goes, it is now boot season! We're buying most styles of boots, the primary exception being fur or shearling lined ones. It's still a little early for those. We're especially looking for ankle boots, combat boots (we love Docs,) flat riding boots, and lace-up or roper boots in a Western style or otherwise.

As always we focus on vintage and designer items as well as contemporary street wear. We are looking for items that are "on-trend" or ahead of the curve. Since our store is relatively small we buy selectively and all buying decisions must bring into consideration what we already have in stock and what has recently been marked down. Unfortunately we do not have the customer base for mid-range contemporary formal wear or department store office-wear. The suiting we are able to purchase is tends to be designer brands like Theory and above. If we pass on an item because it's too formal or conservative we will happily direct you to a more suitable resale spot.

Also, please note we are unable to give specific price quotes via email or over the phone. Feel free to contact us for general buying inquiries or if you have a question if a certain item is suitable for the season we are purchasing for.

It's not fall yet

Just got done uploading 30 new pictures to our Facebook page and I realized...wait, did I also used to post exciting new stuff on the blog? Eeps! Here are a few of my favorites currently in stock.

This is one of my favorite African print tops we've ever gotten in the store. The oversize collar belongs in the front but I think it would look even better in the back giving it an almost bow-like feel.

We've gotten a few pairs of paneled shorts like these, one pair was masquerading as chaps, but I'm especially partial to these ones. Maybe it's because they have a Seattle type feel that will lend them well into layer with knit tights or a flannel in fall.

Okay...I know. This skirt is CRAZY! It's also tiny. It's for real 50s vintage and the tiers have a net underlay. I'm so so so so in love with this, it's just waiting for the perfect petite lady to not shy away from volume.

Velvet burnout on silk is kind of the ultimate transitional material. Light and heavy at the same time, it's perfect for the coming months.

Okay, this may not be very rare or "special" but it's kind of perfect in a way I can't quite explain.

The summer to fall transition

So it's August. And it's hot hot hot in NYC. I'm sitting here sweating away in cut-offs and a tank top as I write this. It's hard to believe we're already looking toward fall. We won't officially start buying for the next season until near the end of the month, but.

What does that mean?

*We're slowing down on overtly summery items. These items include bathing suits, strappy sandals, straw hats, light-weight shorts, and flimsy tank tops. If you bring in items that fit those descriptions they may be passed on even if they are in good condition or are styles we generally sell. Remember, we have a store full of summer merchandise that we need to sell before the chill sets in, so don't take it personally if it seems like we're passing on things similar to styles on our racks.

*We're still taking summer items that are adaptable. Adaptable items are things that can be worn layered or in multiple seasons such as light dresses, denim shorts, tank tops, t-shirts, and open-toe shoes. If you can throw a cardigan or a denim jacket over it or put on a pair of tights under it we want it!

*We're not buying for fall quite yet. Keep your heavier jackets and sweaters packed up for now, we're still staying away from wool for a few more weeks. We'll officially start buying for fall either in late August or early September depending on weather and our stock levels. Remember, fall doesn't mean winter, so keep your knit scarves and hats and down parkas on ice til November!

*We are, however, buying some fall-like items. Things like denim and leather jackets, combat and roper boots, jeans, light-weight knits, and long-sleeve blouses are now a go.

So proud of Heaven Street's Sean Ragon and the rest of Cult of Youth for both their amazing new album and bassist (and friend) Micki Pellerano's beautifully directed video.

It's stunning and slightly NSFW. So gorgeous, we can hardly stand it. And let's not even get started on violinist's Christiana Key's ever-impeccable style. She's always swoon-worthy. I mean come on:
She's like a tiny porcelain bundle of perfection. Girls like this make me wanna kick my rainy day sweatpants to the curb and get with looking totally together 24/7. Then laziness and the desire for comfort take over and eh...sweatpants happen.

ANYWAY...here's the video. It's incredible. Micki's amazing. Go see Cult of Youth on tour with Zola Jesus (the NYC show is at Bowery Ballroom on the 23rd of April and is sure to sell out before doors.

Looking forward into spring

We here at Fox & Fawn can't wait for this awful New York winter to end. Tomorrow is February 1, and spring is still a long way away unless the groundhog gives us good news on Wednesday. Speaking of, does anyone else think it's weird that spring is further away if he sees his shadow? I mean if he sees his shadow doesn't that mean the sun is shining, a good beacon of hope for warmer weather? I never got that.

Anyway, we just wanted to let you know that we are starting our transition into spring buying. What does this mean? Here's a run-down of the items we'll be no longer accepting and the ones we'll be looking for:

Coats: We will no longer be looking for heavy wool or down coats. Instead we will be buying lighter wool, denim, leather, canvas, and cotton jackets. This doesn't mean that every heavier coat will be turned away, for instance vintage fur is basically seasonless around these parts.

Boots and Shoes: We are still very much interested in your boots, the transitional seasons are a perfect time to be buying and selling almost all varieties of boots EXCEPT snow boots. Shoe-wise, the spring transition means we aren't quite ready for sandals, but we are looking forward to seeing more flats, pumps, and booties, even of the open-toe variety.

Tops: We love sweaters and thankfully as we turn to spring we'll still be buying them, just in a smaller quantity. We're always selective when it comes to style and condition but as these items will be harder to sell in the coming months we must be extra picky. T-shirts are always a go around here, the same goes for button-downs in cotton, silk, and denim. It's a little early for super light tanks and gauzy tees, but if they are good layering pieces they may have a place on our racks this early in the year.

Dresses: We buy dresses year round, that's no secret and the transition means we want even more! Vintage wool knits are still in, but in moderation. Super heavy sweater dresses are on their way out but we'll still consider some knits. We have a tough time selling double-knit poly any time of the year. The first buying period of spring opens the doors to lighter cotton, silk, mesh, and rayon. More than fabric, it means we're really looking for bright colors and statement prints to pop out on our racks.

Everything Else: Spring means it's time to say goodbye to winter accessories, especially scarves and hats. We still have some amazing pieces in stock for you cold shoppers, but we're not looking for more. In fact almost all of our winter accessories are on sale for 25% off. By winter hats we mean heavy knits and wool, we still buy almost every style of vintage hat year-round. Pants, think more denim and less wool. Lightweight slacks, silk, and leggings are in the game. Our jewelry case can always fit more baubles and jangles year round!

Big Love

Just a quick little update regarding some things that currently make us happy.

We got a sweet from the ever-supportive Not For Tourists. They also made us blush with their glows regarding our previous locations. Glad they made it to Greenpoint and were not disappointed!

Also major hearts go out to Marissa's sister for giving us this sweet fox to keep our little fawn figurines company. Vegetarians take note, this little guy is a found animal, he was not killed for our decoration.

Speaking of fawns, we've accumulated quite a collection of little lovelies from both our travels and as gifts. This little golden fawn is one of my favorites. Note the dragon on the right, it's the best ring display I've ever met!

Seriously, this guy is like my spirit animal or something. Marissa found him while foraging for furniture upstate. I almost lost it when I first laid eyes on him. True love.

Note, we have never dressed up our cats. Other people's cats maybe, but that's another story. Marissa's cat Brooklyn is over sixteen pounds and 3 feet long toe to tail. He's a bruiser. My roommate's cat Luna does have a bat costume he got in Japan and he swears she loves to wear it. She does enjoy wearing my necklaces and this hot pink feather boa someone left at our house. I think she associates accessories with attention and she loves attention more than anything.

Anyway, these are cute. Forgive us.

Vintage Fetishism

I've started a column over at the Dirty Durty Diary website. I'm super excited to share it with all of you and also have some of you participate. The column is called Threads Bared and each week I'll write about a single beautiful vintage garment that is either housed in someone's personal collection, for sale in a shop, or in a rental archive. The qualifications aren't too strict, it can be unworn or tattered, 100 years old or 30, designer or homemade, what matters is that it's a singular special piece that is eye-catching and loved by it's owner. A good story attached to the origin of the piece doesn't hurt either, but it's not necessary.

For the introductory column I started with a piece from my own closet that Marissa gave me around the time I became a partner in Fox & Fawn. Obviously, that makes it pretty damn special to me. I also discovered that the bedroom wall in our apartment is a wonderful photo backdrop. Good to know.

So if you, dear Fox & Fawn supporter have anything you'd like to share with the world let me know and I'll come over and photograph it (if you're near) and get your story. And to you fellow shop owners, we're in this together and I'd love to support your scene. Party in the LES next weekend! - UPDATE CANCELED

Wow, it's already over 6 months since we packed up shop and reopened in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. That was fast! But fear not Manhattan, we haven't abandoned ye entirely. We're participating in a rad "Shop N Bop" party put on by In Your Closet NYC and other lovely ladies at Spencer Sweeney's giant LES loft.

There will be DJs, hair and nail artists, and most importantly a ton of rad vintage sellers, including Fox & Fawn. For our part we'll be packing up the station wagon with great vintage bargains and designer archive pieces for our trek over the Williamsburg Bridge. The loft itself has an amazing deck so there is loads of outdoor space if you just wanna hang, keep us company, and catch some end of summer rays.

Listen, I'm trying to a good shop owner here and save the best for you, but this vintage Donna Karan open-back dress with a transparent silk panel in the shape of a cross it KILLING ME!

Meanwhile this double layered tie-front vest hailing from some mysterious designer based in the Netherlands is killing me just as softly. But like so many lovely things it isn't not meant for my bust. Alas!

Oh and yes I did try to cram my size 10 feet into those 8 1/2 shoes as well.

Tonight our dear friend Alice Cohen is having an opening reception for her video and art installation at Live with Animals. The exhibition will run through August 29. Come by and say hello and see what all the fuss is about!

From Live With Animals:

"Mirror Moves for Private Eyes" is an exhibit of video, collage and installation, featuring a new video piece by the same name. This work explores the idea of The Mirror as a psychic receptor; a magical portal to visionary and ecstatic states, through self-reflection and visualization. The ritual use of beauty tools such as make-up, hair brushes, perfume, and other transformative implements, infuses these objects with a symbolic charge. Spaces such as movie theaters with lit-up marquees, and boudoirs with mysterious dressing tables, act as portals as well - power sites where time is fluid, and past and future co-exist. Auras of glamour, artifice and fantasy are used in a hypnotic, meditative way, creating pathways towards transcendence and personal gnosis. The collages in the show are composed of elements which were also used in the video, creating a reflexive cast of characters and symbols, which mirror back and forth, referencing each other.

Alice Cohen lives and works in Brooklyn NY. A long-time musician, she has released records since the 1980s as a solo musician, composer, and as a member of various bands. A long-time collagist as well, she started animating her collage materials during the last few years, and has created music videos for bands such as Ducktails, Coasting, and Talbot Tagora, amongst others.

One day a girl named Tatiana came into the store holding a kitten wrapped in a white towel. He was a tiny fluffy black thing. She asked me if I wanted him. I couldn't say no.

Tread lightly into summer

I don't know about you but summer footwear is always a hard one for me. I have my three favorite pairs of sandals that I wear just about every day and am constantly having to get resoled. I wear my sneakers and moccasins to death, literally, where they get trashed beyond the scope of resale or repair. So I'm always on the look-out for cute new summer shoes. Thankfully we've got a whole bunch of season footwear in the store right now for your perusal.

Okay, so maybe these aren't the best way to start off a summer themed post, but it's been rainy the past few days and it's rare you come across a low-topped duck boot/boat shoe hybrid. Size 9, $17.95.

These are an obscure 90's sub-label of Chinese Laundry, not exactly quality high fashion shoes, but we priced them on the cheap because they are amazing. A size 6 and $12.95 they are a no-brainer, everyone needs sequin sneaks, I mean come on!

These little vintage Nina angels are perfect for a picnic. The ribbon can be wrapped up your calf ballerina style or tied in a nice neat bow at the ankle. Espadrilles are always and forever summer perfection.

Well hello there Ralph Lauren saddle shoes. Aren't you just adorable. These shoes have been sitting in our window teasing passersby. They are marked a size 8 1/2 but fit more like a 7 1/2 and are pretty narrow.

These babes are probably the oldest pair of Wild Pair shoes I've come across. Most likely from the later 1970's they have an amazing lucite platform and gold metal heels. They are a rarity at a size 10 and are serious man-killers.

These guys! My favorites and unfortunately a picture doesn't quite do them justice. Vintage Stuart Weitzman low-rise espadrilles with a lace-up front. Chase the rainbow.

Oh hi there cute breathable woven shoes. I'd wear you every day without socks all summer long if you weren't a size 6 and I wasn't a size 10. Sigh...

With the Birkenstock Renaissance beginning get a jump on a finer interpretation with these APC beauties. Well worn but lovingly cared for they are serious perfection in a size 8.

So walk softly in a pair of sequin sneaks or click-clack loudly in some lucite/metal platforms or prance along in some seriously lady-like espadrilles. This is just a sample of the lovely summer loveliness we've got for your feet.

We'll be opening a little late on Monday June 14. The store will open at 3:30 pm instead of noon.

We're getting electrical work done on the store which means...gasp...NO MORE FLUORESCENT LIGHTS!

That's right, it's phase one of our intense ceiling makeover which trust us, we're stoked on, even though it's gonna be a lot of hard work. The drop ceilings are going which is going to be a dream come true.

Once the renovations are over we'll be back on top of posting pictures of our glorious goods for your hungry eyes.

First we saw that our lovely friend Elizabeth over at White Lightning posted this amazing Sailor Mercury outfit she concocted included a rad shirt she snagged at the shop.

Then we saw that the lovely Susie Bubble over at Style Bubble showed off a rad vintage tie-dye button down from Fox & Fawn in one of her stellar outfit posts from when she was stranded in NYC thanks to that pesky volcano.

Basically here's what we're saying, ladies if you buy something from us and love it and blog it let us know because WE LIVE FOR THIS SORT OF THING! Oh man and if you send us pictures of yourselves in gear from the shop we'll post them on our Facebook and our blog. And same for the dudes of course. Our customers are the reason we exist. We live to dress you guys and you guys allow us to live in a very literal food on the table sense.

Motor Madness

For your consideration:

Over the course of the month of April we had the rare luck of obtaining several amazing motorcycle jackets in a variety of materials from classic black leather to metallic green vinyl.

This patchwork cropped one with shorter sleeves is my favorite. If I hadn't already scored the leather jacket of my dreams (off the back of my best friend, I waited for years hoping one day she'd give it up and she did on my birthday no less, thanks Lauren!) I would be tempted to snag it for myself. You can't really tell from the photo but it has a black overlay stitch all around it to give it a rad patchwork effect without being too obvious.

This purple velvet one is so Sunset creeps into early 90s goth club territory. Not sure if it belongs on a member of Faster Pussycat it's the or someone lurking at the Pyramid, but what I am sure of is that it will find a happy home with a neighborhood gal. The "Machine Gun" tag kills me!

And then there's this. Metallic green vinyl. Three bondage buckles. Super light, sort of a demented windbreaker weight. I can't explain it exactly but I freaking love this jacket and I'm pretty sure I'm not losing my mind.

All of these jackets are currently in stock at Fawn & Fawn but they won't be for long so get them while the getting's good!

Neon Angels on the Road to Ruin

Everyone is in Runaways mania right now. Our buddy Omid has the world's largest collection of Runaways memorabilia and he turned me onto them in a big way. I was always a Joan Jett lover, even in my youth and was actually her in the Runaways era one Halloween which was really just an excuse to wear this velvet hooded jumpsuit I'd scored that was so amazing. It wasn't okay for daily wear since it gave me the gnarliest wedgie from front to back. Oh well. I haven't seen the movie yet but from what I hear it pays little attention to the glorious ripping babe that is Lita Ford, but I guess I should see it before I start complaining.

I cannot freak out enough about these Harley Davidson side-lace leather pants. If they were my size I would have had some serious trouble putting them out on the racks, I mean COME ON! Moto is major right now, but honestly, these are beyond any trends. Classic dirty American style, and for less than $50...we must be insane!

Speaking of side-lace pants, we also have these Opening Ceremony gems. The tag size says XS but they can fit up to a medium (they are 100% cotton and stretch like nobody's business, although a nice trip to a hot dryer will probably tighten them up.) They are a lightweight knit that will definitely take you all the way through spring to summer's edge.

Oh wait, what? Size 32 Schlitz pants? Make these into cut-offs for the ultimate backyard BBQ shorts or keep them long and freak out the normals.

Okay, I've noticed some discrepancies as to what these pull-over wonders are called. I've always known them as bajas, but everyone here on the east coast seems to want to call them ponchos or drug rugs. When I hear poncho I think of crocheted sleeveless cape-like wonders and I personally don't like the term "drug rug". It makes it seem like a bong must be firmly planted in hand for you to wear one. So I'll keep calling them bajas even if no one else seems to agree with me, it best represents the chilled out Mexican border vibes these carry.

I love Queen. If you don't buy this soon I will take it home with me and dye it and wear it all summer long. Clock's ticking.

Vince Neil is a tool, but Motley Crue rules and so does this shirt. Never desired an air-brushed close-up portrait of this bloated beauty's face? Maybe that's just because you didn't know what was possible.

We're all for riding this goth revival wave for as long as possible and this stretchy black double front-slit skirt is one of our favorites. Especially if you reinterpret it without the Melrose Place belly chain attire it was probably originally worn with.

Black acid, makes me think of the Lost Boys and every dirt metal dream I've ever had. We've got two of these, one for the ladies and a larger one for the dudes.

Speaking of trends we're happy to see comeback is the triumphant return of the high-cut one-piece. We have a serious selection of amazing ones, come check them out. And of course we have a nice assortment of bikinis for those dedicated to the two-piece tanlines.

We have a Raiders phone our friend gave us as a gift for the store (afterall, who has a landline aside from a business these days, especially in NYC?) So of course we freaked out when we saw this tiny Raiders athletic jacket.

And for the dudes we have only the classiest of beer memorabilia. Coors Light, it's what everyone's dad drinks in Midwest, where I hail from. Such a weakness for that silver bullet.

And hey, look at this headless babe, she's just hangin. Orange cutoffs sewed onto black cotton bikeshorts along with a Mary Meyer tank and a sleeveless denim vest. We think this is summer perfection but we may be pushing it with the ankle bracelet (courtesy of Cheek-ie) but we don't think so. I mean it's not like she's got a toe-ring or anything, right?

The Greenpoint Gazette stopped by last week and talked to both Marissa and myself. They wrote a really sweet article about us and really made us feel at home in our new neighborhood.

And special thanks to our dearest Anjali for her perfect props, “I’ve always thought they needed more space. This is a perfect, magical place, like destiny for them. I feel like all the stars will align now and really believe in it,” Suneja said.

Between the lava lamps, the spooky psych toons, and one customer's description that we look like a place where "woman shamans shop" we're really high on magic. Trying not to go overboard on our tribal prints and bajas but we just can't help it! Spirit vibes for all!

Our opening day was a blast, despite the rain. We worked our butts off and got about 3 hours of sleep the night before. We were working past 3 am laying out the merchandise and pricing everything and up super early to get beer and put the finishing touches on everything. I was so exhausted that I totally spaced on taking photos during most of the party, but thankfully I got some of the space at the beginning of the day.

We put all of the pictures that were up all over the old store on one wall. My goal is the have it take over the entire front area of the shop. I think the first addition I'm going to look for is an old pic of Paul Newman to keep Robert Redford company.

We were lucky enough of score the mannequins from the dear departed Circa Now. Check out these lovely ladies' other shop Court. They post the best pics of their incredibly gorgeous mannequins on their hilarious and awesome Blog.

We are obsessed with this entire outfit and I seriously hope someone buys it head-to-toe, including the righteous Yin-Yang pendant!

We are so stoked to also announce that we've now got an in-house record store run by Sean Ragon (aka Beverly's boyfriend.) He's selling new and used vinyl and the selection is stellar!!!

We've had trouble keeping this under wraps while all the loose ends get tied up, but we're finally ready to let you know:

Fox & Fawn is moving to Brooklyn

We love the Lower East Side and Suffolk Street has been good to us, but it's time to move on to a bigger and better space in the borough we both call home.

Fox & Fawn will be closed starting Thursday 1/27. We will reopen in early March in our new spot. All outstanding store credits will be honored at our new location.

That's all we can tell you right now. Updates on the new space will be forthcoming as renovations begin.

Oh, and you'd better believe we're going to start it off right in the new space with a big old shebang.

Wow, we've been busy round these parts figuring out the weird science that is Ebay. In other Fox and Fawn news we are finishing up the renovations that previously had been put on pause and are tearing up the tile in the back to make the fitting room more inviting. It's a hell of a process. Thankfully we have our patron saint Robert Redford overseeing the entire process. Thanks Robert.

We've been so busy that we've been neglecting our blog mission to send our love of lovely through the universe! Here are so pics of picks that are currently in our shop!

Size 10 70s mules. Seriously, these are torture for me. Being a big-footed gal it's hard for me not to crave anything that comes in my size. But I'm being good so someone else can snatch them up. Gotta share the love.

But that's not all shoe-wise. Not even close. We've got a rainbow of vintage flats from the likes of Joan and David, Gloria Vanderbilt, and Cappagallo. Plus, hello, those are teal suede boots up there. Size 7!

Plus we have the requisite basics. Boots in brown, black and cream in all sizes, shapes, and heel heights. Fall just isn't fall without them.

Okay, the picture doesn't do this justice. It's a totally ridiculous patchwork leather snap-front short-sleeve jacket. Smaller than it looks on the hanger, it will fit a S or a M. It's got cut-outs, fringe, metallic silver leather and a full puffed sleeve. It's bananas amazing on the body.

Again, the hanger isn't telling you the whole story. This jacket is tiny fitted in the waist with a massive batwing sleeve that starts all the way down at the waistband. It's a fairly light-weight suede that is a little on the stiff side so we majorly bargain priced this XS number at only $32.95.

Tsumori Chiatso party dress, only worn once. Size L. Wool and silk insets, easy and adorable fall into winter dress. $49.95

Capes can be a hard wear and because of that are sometimes a difficult sell, but every now and then we come across one that we can't resist. This one is a perfect example. Light grey boiled wool with gingham trim. It's got pockets and inner buttons to secure underneath the arm for added warmth and functionality. A classic.

Holy Moly what fun!

Whoa...I wrote this on the fifth and neglected to post it until now...sorry partygoers, here's a taste of your beautiful faces! I'm ready for another rager, who is with me?

First of all, a gigantic thank you to everyone who came out to help us celebrate last night! Especially big ups to Manderson and Barcelowsky for turning sales floor into a dance floor and bringing it home at the end of the night...we owe you cabfare plus so much more, we won't forget. Bonnie was the best bartender and everyone graciously tipped. Sean made an amazing rum punch that people will be talking about until at least our next party (holidaze anyone?) The cops came and a few of our buddies got tickets but nothing catastrophic happened. The restaurant next door, Antibes, gave us ice and tolerated our drunken guests milling around outside. The residents of 112 Suffolk were patient with us as well and somehow don't hate us!

A huge mess of our friends came, saw, drank, danced, and shopped. We couldn't ask for more. Here are some shots from yet another successful party! The toilet kept working but now the sink is broken. Not bad considering it was the only party casualty (aside from maybe a little dignity.)

By the end of this week our renovations will be done. We'll have a new fitting room and more rack space and more beautiful exposed brick! Once the racks are back up we're breaking out the fall merch we've been collecting all summer long. Not only do we have a new season and new renovations to celebrate, our 2 year anniversary is coming up! Whew! There is a lot going on around here and what better way to take a load off than to party!

Barcelowsky (pictured below trying on some F&F regalia) and Berko are manning the decks with end of summer tropical party jams and Sean Ragon, Cult of Youth's master bartender is concocting a special spiked punch that will make your eyes cross and your taste buds sing (aka it'll be yummy and get you drunk.)

The people next door needed to build a bathroom in part of our space to stay open. We gladly obliged and are getting a new fitting room behind it plus extra rack space. Hence the rectangular cut-out.

It's already mid-August but this summer heatwave makes fall clothing seem unimaginable right about now. Do I really want to be putting out wool dresses in 90 degree heat? Forays into the unknown

We here at Fox and Fawn have decided to be a little less shy and retiring, so we've created a blog to get the word out. Stay tuned for a whole bunch of exciting news including store renovations, upcoming shows and parties (free booze and good tunes!), and regular updates on our ever-changing inventory. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the shop let us introduce ourselves.

Fox and Fawn is a vintage shop in Manhattan's Lower East Side. We stock our racks with treasures found from collections across the nation as well as with wares our neighbors (near and far) bring in for our BUY/SELL/TRADE. The primary owner is founder Marissa Johnson who started the shop under it's original name Found with her then-partner. A few years, a makeover and a name-change later, Fox and Fawn in still going strong. Recently Beverly Hames (aka the voice of this blog...help me, do I write in first or third person here?!) joined Marissa and here we are!

During it's four years of existence, Fox and Fawn has had a singular mission, to be a shore that we ourselves could shop at. In other words, Fox and Fawn has the gentlest price point this (or any) side of the East River. Dresses average between $24.95 and $45.95, tops range from $12.95 to $32.95 and skirts and shorts will only set you back between $16.95 and 39.95. Only one item is priced over $80 and that's the most glorious vintage Gucci bag we have hanging behind the counter! We focus on wearable vintage and retro (aka on-trend but maybe a little too recent to be "vintage" like the glorious 90s garb lining our racks) styles peppered with designer gems.

Got it? We're cheap, not easy. Our prices look as good as our clothes, which means they look pretty darn good and they'll look even better on you.
